Signs that Your Dishwasher Needs Repair in Bonita Springs

Your dishwasher is meant to make your life effortless and easy. Probably for most Bonita Springs’ homeowners, they adore the comfort that it has to offer since washing dishes is not really fun. One appliance breakdown can quickly result in your kitchen nightmare.

Sometimes bad things happen. Your trusted dishwasher stops working. Take a moment of your time and attention to these 5 dishwasher signs (for repair or replacement) to catch, detect, and prevent your appliance from total breakdown.

Sign No.1: Your dishes don’t feel hot.

Perhaps the most significant factor in clean, germ-free dishes is hot, boiling water. If you’re getting rid of your dishes from the washer in a timely manner post-cycle and they are not coming out toasty and steamy, there may be a problem with the heating coil.

This is what makes your tap water extremely hot to disinfect the load; if it’s cracked, the probability is it’s going to be pretty pricey to repair or replace. It is advisable just to get a brand new machine.

Sign No.2: You notice rust.

Every now and then, wipe the floor beneath the dishwasher with a paper towel or light-colored cloth. If you see flakes of rust, that simply means water is discharging and getting into places it shouldn't. You might want to get a new dishwasher sooner rather than later.

Sign No.3: You have a loose or defective door.

If the latch doesn’t close properly and securely, the washer won’t be functional. A plain latch repair may be in order or, more seriously, this could be a sign that the machine has warped from leakage.

It goes to show, prepare your budget for a new replacement unless you want to wash your dishes by hand from now on.

Sign No.4: Draining is defective.

Another sign, if once you are finished with a cycle, you notice a pool of water under your dishwasher, that’s a drain issue.

However, double-check first to see in case bits of food or other rubbish are clogging the drain and can stop water from filtering out after the cycle is finished, or you always have the option of hiring a plumber to do it for you.

Sign No.5: Failure to be energy efficient.

While this might not be as a top priority as the above issues, the energy efficiency of your appliance is a factor you should take into consideration.

Usually, dishwashers have a lifespan of 10 years, check if yours has 10 years or more, if it does, it probably has reached its prime and needs replacement anytime.

Generally speaking, if you see any of the signs listed above, then you will most likely want to change the appliance. It may be the right time to give the professionals a call.

5 Signs That Your Garbage Disposal Needs Repair

Since the invention of John W. Hamme’s first garbage disposal unit in 1927, the American people’s way of disposing of their household food waste, scraps or garbage has changed over time and garbage disposal has become an essential part of every American household.

Garbage disposal is an electronic device placed under a kitchen sink between the sink's drain and the trap, where it shreds household food waste, scraps or garbage into small pieces that pass through the plumbing system.

As known, food scraps make up from 10% to 20% of household waste, which poses a problematic factor of our daily waste that creates public health, sanitation and environmental problems in our society. Proper waste disposal is important due to the fact that certain types of wastes can be hazardous and dangerous to the society and environment if not handled properly.

While doing your household chores, your garbage disposal may be showing signs of ‘not-so-normal’ function as used to be. By way of preventing your garbage disposal in need of repairs, proper care and early detection of problems before it occurs can help save a lot of money and maintenance repairs which is necessary for every household. Check out below some common signs your garbage disposal might be showing and the necessary actions that need to be done:

Sign No. 1: Odd and unexplainable noises

Garbage disposals are compactly designed with moving parts, any odd or new noises that you may hear or notice can be a sign of a problem. This sound may indicate something is wrong with its parts. You could try to check your drain by having a peek that may be blocking the unit, and if ever you may find something try to remove it carefully and test the disposal. If you still hear the abnormal sounds, it’s time to call in the technicians for a professional consultancy.

Sign No. 2: Redundant odorous smell

After making several attempts to air out the odorous smell from your disposal like cleaning it with dish soap, ice cubes, and even baking soda and vinegar, the smell keeps coming back. Trapped food and waste are caught inside that needs to be removed by the professionals. For older disposals like 15 years or more, it may be time to buy a new one.

Sign No. 3: Frequent clogging

Even though you may be able to dispose of your food items by cutting them in small pieces before putting them in your disposal but still is stuck up, so maybe it's time to have it checked by the professionals. If you are planning to open your unit by yourself, check first if it is still under warranty, which will save you the hassle of wasting your time and effort. However, it is still advisable not to open and fix your disposable units because some products are designed to be fragile and compact and upon disassembling it will worsen the problem.

Sign No. 4: Frequent pressing of the reset button

Normally, after a clog at your disposal, you need to push the reset button, however, if you find yourself overdoing it that could mean the motor needs a repair or a replacement.

Sign No. 5: No Power

If you tried to switch on your garbage disposal and won’t power up, there might be a technical problem. Basic electronic troubleshooting might help like checking the plug in the outlet if it is connected, pressing the reset button if it still functions by other means, or checking the circuit breaker in your home’s electrical panel, however, if all fails better call in the professionals to have a serious look.

How to Keep Your Freezer and Ice Maker in The Best Condition

Nowadays, becoming a homeowner is never easy. The responsibility of maintaining and sustaining the appliances of our homes should be well established by keeping them in good working condition.

Without our refrigeration appliances like freezers and ice makers, our food and drinks would be spoiled, contaminated and damaged, making our everyday way of life difficult and inconvenient.

One of the most important refrigeration appliances is a freezer. Besides being great space storage for our foods and drinks, freezers help us to prevent, or to stop spoiling our food and drinks from bacterial contamination and unstable room temperatures.

Freezing is a simple way of preserving our foods. After buying foods like meat, vegetables, fruits, and other sustainable bodily items, we need to keep them in a stable temperature by keeping them frozen, to preserve and keep them from being contaminated by bacteria and viruses.

Bacteria and viruses are dangerous to anyone’s health once ingested, drank or consumed in any way making the person ill and sick. Proper storage and preservation of our foods and drinks are necessary in order to have a healthy diet and lifestyle.

The next appliance is an ice maker, another indispensable home-helper appliance. Ice makers are so useful in making more ice in preserving and freezing our foods like meat, chicken, fish products, and other drinks like soda, juices, and other frozen drinks. Some ice makers and the water dispenser of refrigerators are connected, which they should be both functioning and in good working condition.

For the freezer, in order to keep up to be in a stable condition, always remember to clean the coils regularly. A good monthly routine cleaning will help extend its lifetime use. You simply use warm and soapy water to clean inside out. Another, defrost occasionally your freezers. Defrost especially when you see your freezer is having thick ice and the smell is exhibiting unpleasant odors. Defrosting your freezer twice a month is enough to keep it maintained normally.

Another for ice makers, keeping up its cleanliness is essential since bacteria and viruses are frozen temporarily they should be discarded or emptied out of the ice maker in order not to contaminate your food and drinks altogether. Changing the water filter once or twice a year is good enough, but it depends on how often the ice maker and water dispenser are used.

Always keep your ice maker clear of any food or drink that you load in your freezer. Here are some steps in cleaning your refrigerator’s ice maker. First, clean the ice maker by turning off first and shutting off the water flow. Then remove the ice din and discard any remaining ice. By using a mixture of warm water and dish soap with a soft sponge, clean the insides of the ice bin. Next, while the bin dries, you should wipe down the ice dispenser’s opening. Once everything is cleaned and dried, you can place the ice bin back in the freezer and turn it into the ice maker and water flows back on. Remember to discard the first batch of ice made, as it may contain some residual cleaning solution.

Why Appliance Repair Should be Done Properly?

Ever experience repairing your appliance from a certain technician and finding the same problem, or maybe you find a new one that has never been there before. The question remains to be seen, what should you do when appliance repair goes wrong? Would you let the appliance technician go his way and simply pay him off? Or you let him fix again to resolve the damage he has done, even worst the appliance broke itself permanently or malfunctions that no repair can fix.

First and foremost, calm down and don’t get yourself furious and be angry about the situation. Think reasonably. If you are repairing with the professionals, ask yourself if the technician has done reasonably as what is based on the repair contract or what the work order says. If the repair was not a success and the technician has done all logical and technical solutions that even called up its company office for consultancy, you may not be legally entitled to your customer rights.

If you are repairing with local technicians or ‘the jack of all trades guy next door’, chances of assuring your customer rights be legally binding is none. Non-professional technicians or persons with no professional documents to show their expertise or no certified legal business credentials, are high-risk and dangerous to have dealings with. Hiring them may able to save you some bucks but risky business.

Research the Web.

Beforehand, calling the technician when your appliance goes awry, contact the product manufacturer. Probably the issue is a common one and the company has a fix solution, maybe you are fortunate enough it will cost you nothing.

Another is researching more deeply by using search engines on the web like Google.com, the web’s most popular search engine for the issues at hand. Be knowledgeable about the appliance problem. Use keywords like the type of product and short description of the appliance problem. For example, you might type: “washing machine working but not warming up”. There might be typical solutions for some common problems, in which there no need for calling the technicians.

Here are possible expectations:

Expectation No. 1: Directly Complain

Upon knowing what the technician has done, even if you notice the technician is incompetent that still needs more training, stay calm and try to be nice. Speaking nicely to the technician can sometimes help the technician find other means, the technician would do anything beyond what is necessary, and value you as a ‘keeper client’.

Expectation No. 2: Negligence

If you believe the technician was dishonest. You might use the so-called ‘expectation damages’, damages recoverable to correctly put the things the way should have been done. Likewise, written guarantee documents, where the repair should have fixed the problem. Another is so-called incidental damages, damages to pay up to the client (you) due to negligence of the party (technician’s company) for breach of contract.

Expectation No. 3: Fraud

Next, if you discover was fraud or swindling. Spotting swindlers from the start is hard to know, but if ever you caught one most likely you may be able to collect double damages, as well as legal fees.

Hopefully, you won’t get to the point where courts are involved.

Expectation No. 4: Acted Reasonably

If the technician has acted professionally with honesty, you can suggest an open company negotiation for a fair bargain. For example, they might accept to charge a wholesale cost for the extra parts and/or forgo another diagnostic fee or labor charge.

Expectation No. 5: Second Opinion

If the first company refuse to listen with reason, have a second opinion with another repair company. By then if they do repair the problem, keep the work order, replaced parts, and the receipt for evidence legalities to prove the damages against the first company.

Expectation No. 6: Third Party

If are you are still unsatisfied and discontented for having no justice, you may seek the assistance of third parties such as Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau, or BBB, is a non-profit corporation that uses an Accredited Businesses system to assign rankings to businesses, charities and non-profit organizations. Local BBB’s can let consumers file complaints against accredited and non-accredited businesses.

Expectation No. 7: Legal Action

As a last resort, see them in court. Court hearings are headaches to many, but sometimes that is the only way to resolve the problem. Check out www.nolo.com for free legal information and about the small-claims court.

Appliance Doctor Inc. your trusted and certified appliance repair specialist in Florida helps you identify dishwasher forewarning signs to look out for:

Dishwasher Cannot Pump Water

The dishwasher is equipped with a computer circuit inside that has a sensor to pump water in and out. You need to repair if the sensor becomes dirty, stuck-up, and broken. Sensor replacement is what you need if the pump has failed. When this happens, better to call the professionals. It is advisable not to turn on the dishwasher in order to pump water because it will overheat and breakdown.

Dirty Dishes

Unclean dishes can be caused by the clogging of drain screens by food and other small items in the bottom which got blown around by the water and end up sticking to the dishes. Another is the soap which is not effective. Most modern dishwasher soaps do not require rinsing dishes, if you are rinsing then it is the soap.

Leaking Dishwasher

If you find water is dripping from the dishwasher’s sides or bottom, the culprit is the door seal that is not functioning well. Even though the machine is working well but still there is leaking, it is time to call the experts for door seal replacements. Before calling the technicians, try to check if there are dishes pushing against the door, with its slightest pressure could open the door in which water can overflow all over the kitchen.

After a Wash Cycle, the Dishes are Cool

Dishwashers have heating coils in the bottom of the machine which during the dishwashing process rinses and washes the dishes. If the dishes are not hot after every washing, better to contact the professionals for assistance.

Suggestion Tip: check the warranty on the machine. If you are fortunate that it is still under warranty, chances are you will not have to pay a single dime, thus saving you money.

If ever you may able to repair your dishwasher by yourself, good for you. But if you find the dishwasher a bit complicated that you have second thoughts of breaking the machine than fixing it, or simply you have no time for a small do-it-yourself project call Appliance Doctor Inc. for your dishwasher repair and other services.

Common Oven Problems and Who to Call for Repair?

Even though ovens may be seldom used in the kitchen, it is still an important appliance that should be taken care of.

Knowing more about ovens is important before any oven problems would occur. Appliance Doctor Inc., your appliances repair doctor in Florida that offer repair services like range and oven repair, refrigerator repair, microwave repair services, and other appliances, give some tips about the most common problems of ovens and what to do about it.

Beforehand and a word of precaution, minor repairs of kitchen appliance may be safe, however, there are certain appliances that are dangerous and needs professional expertise and oven is one of them. If you plan to self-fix it yourself, check first the warranty period, which covers the labor and appliance part’s cost for defective workmanship and appliance parts for a year after the purchased date. Secondly, protect yourself by taking precautionary safety measures in avoiding the electrical risks and hazards waiting to happen anytime. It is best to call the Appliance Doctor Inc.

Problem No.1: Not Turning On

After plugging On the Oven but still no power? Several issues include wire is broken, a damaged broil element or bad control, or amount of power it needs is less or more. While for gas oven problems like faulty gas control, igniter or valve. Attempting to fix these issues is highly dangerous in which you could be electrically in shock, it is advisable to leave it to the professionals at Appliance Doctor Inc.

Problem No.2: Unstable Temperature

Overcooked, or not properly cooked food is the most common result of an oven not cooking the correct temperature. There is a need to recalibrate the temperature controls, which can be found on the owner’s manual. This can be done by increasing or decreasing the temperature levels by up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, recording correct temperature reading every 30 minutes, adjusting the oven’s temperature dial (based on its readings), and repeat testing until the correct calibration. If all of these are a bit complex, it is time to call in the professionals.

Problem No.3: Light is Not Working

If there is no light, the possibility is that the bulb is burned out and can be replaced by a new one. If the problem still not fixed, it could be an electronic control, or a bad light switch, or connecting wire which is best to consult an electrical technician since it would involve electrical wirings, circuitry and the danger of electrocution.

Problem No.4: Not Heating Up

After some time the oven is not heating up at all then the ignition system or the heating element is possibly damaged. For electric ovens, the problem is likely the heating element. When you adjust the temperature and still not heating up, then the heating element should be replaced. For gas ovens, the bad igniter is the main suspect, but also make sure the gas line is in good condition. After checking and found the range above the oven is fine, then probably the igniter needs to be replaced by Appliance Doctor Inc.

Oven Replacement. If all means have been used and exhausted in repairing your oven, another alternative is oven replacement. These include long-years use, rust wearing all over the insides of the oven, and a damaged rack system. For ovens that are 30 years and older, replacement parts are hard to find or no longer available, and a new replacement is the only solution.

However, if you tried all means and lost your patience along midway of the article, or have second thoughts of the risk the dangers and hazards of oven electrocution, probably it is better to call the expert and professional in appliance repairs- Appliance Doctor Inc.

Washer and dryer machines sometimes need troubleshooting.

Below are the five most common problems with solutions by Appliance Doctor, your trusted professional doctor of appliances.

Problem No. 1: The machine has no power.

The most common problem: Power loss due to a faulty outlet, a faltered circuit breaker, or even simple unplugged power cord.

Solution: Using the machine for a long time may cause its motor to lock up and temporarily stop functioning. Even if cooling it down temporarily and switching it on again fails, better off call the professionals at Appliance Doctor, technically it could be a defective fuse, broken switch or malfunctioning thermostat.

Problem No. 2: Water Leakage

Leaking water issues are sometimes manageable There are several issues that just need a simple understanding and small initiative.

Solution: First, check-up the hose’s connection and tightness and also its washers that might be damaged due to its overuse. Don’t forget the faucets and water sources that could be spewing out water also. Secondly is a damaged gasket or seals. Overusage tends to break the tub’s main seal which requires the professionals' services of Appliance Doctor. Third, check for blocked drains. Drain hoses usually get clogged with hair, lint, crumpled fibers or even that missing handkerchief.

Problem No. 3: The washer will not drain.

Solution: You can do washer repair by checking the drain pump, probably due to wear and tear it just needs replacement. Double check also the drain pipes connection that may have blocked hoses, and obstructions from small coins or even underwear caught between the pump and the basket.

Solution: Dryer repair or troubleshooting dryers, most of the time Appliance Doctor technicians are needed, especially whenever the ignitor stops generating heat, thermal fuses are blown or heating elements burnt. Better to call the expert than tinkering and worsening the problem.

Problem No. 5: Failure to Spin

Solution: Usually a damaged or loosened belt where the motor is functioning normally causes the machine’s drum to malfunction. How To Properly Clean a Smelly Garbage Disposal in Naples, Florida

As most people who have decent food or garbage disposal unit will tell you they're great things. They get rid of all those smelly food scraps, peelings, tea bags and all manners of organic waste reducing what you throw out but also keeping smelly scraps of food that insects love to feed and grow on away in large part.

If you want to know how to beat the bad odor and keep your garbage disposal free of smelly odors and bacteria build up, here are ways on how to properly clean smelly garbage disposal in Naples, Florida from Appliance Doctor Inc.

Turn off the fuse connected to the garbage disposal. This way there's no question of anyone getting hurt or damaged. Use a pair of tongs to reach into the disposal to remove any debris that hasn't been ground or is stuck in the blades, and then turn the fuse back on. It's important to flush the drain line of the disposal to clear it of any buildup. Plug your sink and fill with two to four inches of water, then turn on the disposal while removing the plug, which pulls all the water through the drain line and thoroughly rinses the garbage disposal. To refresh and clean garbage disposal blades, pour a one-quarter cup of baking soda down the drain along with one to two tablespoons of vinegar. Turn on the water and run the disposal for a 10 count. Now give the whole disposal a final freshening by dropping a garbage disposal refresher or some citrus rinds down the drain and run the disposal. There may be a clog or more serious matter involved, in which case contact Appliance Doctor Inc. for a cleaning a service call.

Worst things that can happen in your kitchen is a bad odor. Even though the design of the garbage disposal pulverizes and removes kitchen waste, sometimes food particles can become trapped underneath the blades, on the sides of the machine and in the drainpipe. This creates the perfect environment for mold and bacteria to grow and produce unpleasant odors and unhealthy spores. As the bacteria and mold persist and grow, so does the smell. Routine cleaning of your garbage disposal at least weekly with one these techniques will help to keep it odor-free. Always remember to run water while using your garbage disposal to help keep it clean and germ-free. Garbage disposals are appliances that do not respond well to abuse, so use caution when you toss items in it.

Don't delay in calling Appliance Doctor Inc., if you need your food waste disposal unit unjammed, unblocked or replaced as leaving a faulty machine without doing anything could create bad odors or worst still if the motor is jammed it could burn out than you would need a new unit. 6 Useful Tips to Maintain your Freezers & Ice Maker in its best Condition

The freezer and ice maker, if it’s running, keeps the family running too! Cool temperatures help ensure everyday food items like meat maintain their shelf life and stay safe for you to eat. Read on as we bring you 6 useful tips on how to maintain your freezers and ice maker in its best condition.

1.Keep it clean

Ice makers turn water into pounds of sparkling, frozen cubes daily. So, it may sound odd that they require frequent cleaning. These machines are just like any appliance handling food items. Unsanitary conditions promote germ growth, which in turn causes health risks.

2. Change the filter

You can't make quality ice from dirty water. Modern refrigerators equipped with ice makers also have a water filtration system. Typically they pass water through an activated charcoal filter, which removes common tap water impurities.

3.Don't forget to descale

Unless you invest in an RO (reverse osmosis) system, your ice maker will experience calcium deposits (also known as scale). Compared to standalone machines, ice makers inside refrigerators produce much less ice (4 to 5 pounds per day). As a result, scale buildup is less of a problem. Standalone ice makers churn out multiple times that amount over the same period.

4. Deal with clogs

Refrigerator ice makers are particularly prone to clogs. Over time, the ice dispenser chutes tend to jam. Typically, it's smashed ice particles and frozen ice melt that's to blame. On newer fridge models with in-door ice makers, the fix is easy. First remove the ice bin, along with any stuck cubes. Now use a warm, damp cloth to clean the bottom of the bin and ice chute. Dry everything thoroughly, then replace the bin.

5. Room to breathe

Standalone ice machines need to have proper ventilation, otherwise they won't function at their best. Air enters on the vent's right side and warm air is expelled through the left. Make sure not to block or obstruct this venting. Likewise, ice makers require at least 3 inches of clearance on their sides and back.

6. Maintain the proper temperature.

Ideally that is 0 degrees Fahrenheit. To see how cold your freezer is, leave a thermometer in a cup of vegetable oil in the freezer overnight. Too warm after lowering the setting? Check that cold air isn’t escaping. For optimum efficiency, keep the freezer stocked and away from direct sunlight, a stove, or a dishwasher.

Freezers are switched on and running 24 hours a day, all year long. They account for about 20% of the electricity used in the average home, so it definitely pays to make sure they run as efficiently as possible. If ever you noticed that your freezer or ice maker is not working well, it may have some problems that you must have it checked by a professional.

My Ice Maker is not making Ice

It’s so humid and you want to enjoy an iced fruity smoothie at home. However, when you tried to get some ice, there’s none. There are a lot of symptoms that your ice maker is not functioning properly. One of the visible symptoms is if it’s not making ice the way it was supposed to anymore. Some symptoms could be that it’s only serving crushed ice instead of ice cubes. Ice makers are very simple machines that you will notice something wrong right away.

Troubleshooting and repairing an ice maker could be tough but there are actually some simple remedies that you can do at home to manually fix it before calling a professional. You need to learn how an ice maker works first. You need to be aware of this so that at least, you will have an idea how it operates.

After you identify how an ice maker works, next, you should be able to identify where the problem lies. Here is one symptom and its possible solution that might work for you.

Ice Maker Does Not Make Ice – This could mean that the water passage is blocked or the solenoid doesn’t work. Here are the steps that you can follow to get your ice maker working:

-          Check the water supply line. If the ice maker doesn’t make ice but you can see the arm swing into motion and you hear a buzz for about 10 seconds, the water valve is asking for water that isn’t arriving. This means the valve and the solenoid are probably okay, but the water supply is not. Be sure the water supply line isn’t kinked behind or beneath the refrigerator (1/4-inch copper tubing is much better than plastic fill line to prevent kinks).

-          See if the fill tube is frozen. Check to see if something has caused ice to back up around the mechanism—this can cause the fill tube to freeze. When ice cubes are small and seem to be getting smaller, it generally indicates a frozen fill tube.

-          Look inside the ice mold. If it’s filled with full-sized ice, the problem may be the water supply fill valve or the electrical connection that operates the system. To verify that the motor works, you can make a “jumper” and test it—if you’re comfortable and safe working with electricity. To do this, strip the ends from a small length of electrical wire. Insert the bare-wire ends into the “T” and “H” holes in the motor unit. This will manually start a cycle.

-          Check the water line that enters the back of the freezer for a blockage. Find the water shut-off valve behind the refrigerator or under the sink, turn it off, unscrew the copper line from the back of the refrigerator, put the copper line in a bucket, turn on the valve, and see if water pours out.

These are just simple steps that you can follow at home however, if you still don’t get your ice maker working, then, it’s time for an ice maker repair. Call the doctor! We have a same-day service team at Appliance Doctor Inc. who is ready to take your call for help when you need it. We will also be happy to provide helpful suggestions on how to avoid this from happening in the future.
